What's Cookin?

I'm having a hard time choosing what cooking school to go to. I looked at a couple different culinary arts institutes online today, and they all looked pretty nice. Though that's really the point of the websites, right? Making the mundane seem fantastic, the depraved noteworthy. Maybe I'm just easily impressed. . .

Anyways, Culinard is probably on my “To Seriously Consider This Month” list. It's getting to be a pretty hefty list. Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College, which is not in Virginia, by the way, offers culinary arts degrees in a format I can really appreciate—thirty-six weeks.

Don't get me wrong, school's cool and all, but I tried the college thing once before, and after the Welcome Wagon Committees are long gone, school is definitely not cool.

I just need some certification really. I know how to cook, I know I like to cook; can't I just skip all the work and open my own restaurant already? I'd even settle for a upscale taco stand. But alas, I know I need an education to succeed in culinary these days, so this seems the way to go.

Anyways, I'm adding Culinard to the list, but I definitely need to do some more research on cooking-school-apedia before making any life-changing decisions.

Culinard is a great way to further your careet. unfortunately, the fact that you know how to cook is not really enough for most employers. You need that additional step of a formal education or your career may just end up at that Taco Stand.

If you are serious about this field and not just checking another career of this month's "list" then you do need to attend a great school. Culinard is excellent and will do nothing but enhance your resume. Good luck to you in your chosen field.

I saw this photo and had to stop and read. I live near Culinard and this is just another "hint" that I need to go. I love cooking and hear great things about them. I really need to check it out.

If you want a career in culinary arts, you have to go to school. For the most part, today's chefs didn't get where they were by working their way through McDonald's. Food today is much more sophisticated and there is a lot of chemistry involved. Go to school for this career. And yes, Culinard is a good choice; I've hired several people from there after they graduated.

The time issue would be important to me. the idea of getting my degree in only thirty-six weeks would be my primary motivation for attending and the fact that it is a well known school would come in second. School is fine, but I need to be in my career field as soon as possible.
